Here are the videos i used in one of my instillation tests, the first one was about dizziness, my theme was going to be madness as I believed they link well.

The second one was to show the madness in doing nothing or feeling like the screen is lagging.

however with time I found the images too dull, they were very similar as they were in one place and with the same character

This was the result of rushing to have a finished piece however once I had finished it I felt it was severely lacking, so instead I used it as a learning curve, I learnt how to merge videos, speed up and slow down from this which are all useful things to lead me to my real final piece

Though I do like the big reveal on the eyes as the video behind had eyes near the same level, it gave an wary effect that fits in with madness.

I had people sit on chairs looking at the ceiling, I then spun the chairs and made them try to walk down the hallway, I could fit this into madness because or the dizziness and confusion as well as the inability to walk in a straight line, i.e life is hard

I decided too try and dull the colours by tinting the video clips a brown colour so it looked old fashioned, to try and fit the music some were darker to show the harshness, the darker clip was actually an accident when recording, someone who had just been spun ran into the radiator before dramatically sliding to the floor so I decided to keep it in for this one, to show that the dizziness is not good.

This is my final video, it has a lot of changes from its first one. with a happier feel to it than before, no colour tints this time to show off the vibrant colours.

This one still fits in with madness because they know how they will feel after being spun, the dizzy nauseousness, but yet they still go through with it like a drug almost. 

The sounds playing are the laughter recorded while they were being spun or when they were walking, this is to test the theory that laughing is infectious, when you hear someone laugh you are more likely to laugh with them, however the sounds are not from the clip they are playing along, they have all been mixed up so some guys have girls laughing and some girls have guys laughing because I find that funnier.  

I do like this video and am proud of it however I think I could improve next time by recording in a more open space like outside or in a field and record more sounds to be played in the background of the video, but i think i did well in trimming, placement and variation.

Plans and practices

Here are my practices on the Canvas' I made using MDF cut 44 width and 61 length, then covered by a strong durable fabric over one to make a canvas, the other remained without the fabric to test texture and to just make sure it was the right effect.

 This one was first to do, I used just the primed MDF board for this, I also tried to do a Jim Dine technique for the background to keep it visually stimulating, i liked the idea of now worrying about the colours within the colours, for example if you look at some of the yellow boxes you will see some blues, pinks and browns mixed in almost carelessly, but it did give off a nearly 3D effect, however if i were to do a similar background in the future, i would not use the dabble technique, it doesnt look right so i will keep it smooth.

Then I had Julian Opie faces, or tried to, with the very limited details on the face, it was almost the exact effect i wanted, though i wish the lines were darker. One thing i am disappointed with is how small i made the faces, yes i wanted the background to be visible but now there is too much background, so for my next idea i will make sure to make the characters alot bigger!

I have decided to keep the lips big and exaggerated as my sort of signature mark that people may recognise.

This was from an argument between Danny Dyer and katie hopkins in which he called her a tampon with a face after she lashed out at his fiancee

“Last one.....as I'm in a jolly good mood.....imagine if a tampon was to have a face......@KTHopkins happy Tuesday. ;)”

I erased the last head and body because of my previous review of it being too small, though the lips weren't as realistic, but in my eyes it looks like he is pouting which is funny to me.

From some research i did later on I went back and edited the background so that it would have these thick black lines, however i found it blended in too much with the lines in the faces, clothes and tampon. I would need to take this into consideration for next time.

In a tweet from Katie Hopkins she said that if Ed Miliband was voted the new pm she was going to leave the country, i found this funny because some people on the internet would then intentionally vote for him to spite her making it a possibility.

I first decided to blend some colours,  thought that this effect looked interesting and simple, i dragged the brush off of the page in a curtain angle and added a bit of colour each time without cleaning the brush, though this also lead me to another idea;

I decided to try and make a universe, seeing though Ed was stood on the world with Katie running away, it would only make sense for their background to be the universe around them, though this makes it too literal, so instead i tried to find a different background type in which it emphasises the people and does not make them blend in.

 To simplify the background i used a technique of another artist; Kim Moore, one of her techniques is to scrape paint onto canvas with a spatula, giving a textured effect which i wanted to try and replicate, I think the paint was too watery and you could still see the failed attempt at a universe in the background lightly, though i do not mind it, it gives an added colour, i had fun using the spatula though i do not think i will use this technique again.

However, when I left it to dry it dribbled from the angle it was at, though it looks interesting, it was not what i wanted to happen.

This one is not finished however I tried to do a different background to the first image, trying to use black and white to emphasise the colour in the foreground however i am not sure it is right, perhaps i will keep the idea for a future design except keep it more the patch work style of Jim Dine instead of the floating TV screens we see here.

I did learn from my mistakes last time and made the characters alot bigger to take up more space, even giving them a more unusual position to make them more visually pleasing.

This Idea is from a celebrity argument between Katie Price and Katie Hopkins, in which Katie talked to the press saying 'I bet she doesn't even wear face cream' which i found hilarious because it just wasn't the sort of back talk you would expect. At the moment it seems to be a series of Katie Hopkins seeing though so many people make ridiculous comments.

I do think i will stick to celebrity arguments or social networking posts for my final piece.

I decided this would be my final piece once finished.

Here is the finished piece, i decided to change the background to grey so that it did not draw attention from the main image however i also changed the lines to white to make them stand out against the black

Show biz

Here is a tester with the Dogs I had finished, my glamorous assistants seemed to enjoy themselves while chasing each other around, it was also fun to watch so I think this would be the better idea instead of using them as wall decorations.

From this I made more dogs that would be either side of the person instead of only one side, this is entirely for convenience. 

Here are the dogs in action, I think it went well however there was a late minute change of plan for where two of the dogs would be walking, they walked round twice before waiting till their time to run down the middle to Diana (Kim in the nature themed dress).

Julian Opie

the tooth brushes were to symbolise how i disagree with certain actions or opinions they may be in the news for, or just what i have seen in general.

Spitting Image

Spitting Image is or was a Satirical TV show staring Public figures in caricature pre portions, There were 18 series of around 131 episodes starting from 1984 to 1996 when it finished.

Artists Peter Fluck and Roger Law made the caricature puppets, they had no previous experience with being on television in any way however, they did used to make characters to illustrate articles in newspapers.

The Writers quit when viewing figures were in decline in 1995, thus leading to the shows final episode in 1996.

Satire- Adult Swim

Too many cooks is basically a mock of family sitcoms or soap programs, using random humour to exaggerate it to its max, for example of this would be giving a pie a police badge, a 'superhero' turning round to transform into their disguise but it took too long, it took a dark twist where there was a murderer on the loose before it got killed by a puppet named smarf who was actually a robot and then they were in space and just everything happened....

I think the actual plan for this was to make fun of almost every show possible and cram them into this 11 minute long video, you really want to stop watching it but its hard to stop, even though the biggest part of the video was its intro, which took up almost the 11 minutes.

I do suggest watching it if you have patients and don't mind being confused for the entire time.

It did give me the Idea to put celebrities faces onto inanimate objects, this can range from vegetables to a lamp, it would appear random however i could be quite cleaver with it, try to exaggerate a point for example 'The Rock', Dwayne douglass johnson's face on a rock, I say clever when really i just mean silly, I mean i could still use the caricature research as a style to put onto the rock instead of it just being a detailed face on a detailed rock, either way would be funny

1950's Advertisement

While world war 2 was happening, trade routes were restricted or even cut off, meaning rationing had to take affect, anything that was being sold had to be necessary, to stay running shops had to compromise, for example porcelain shops could only sell 'white ware' completely colour and patternless therefore not using any unnecessary materials.

After the bombing raids which mainly aimed at places such as factories, cultural and religious places as well as crowded areas, meant that there was a huge need for quick housing which were well made considering they were supposed to be temporary, some lasting 40 years.

1950's, also known as the year of the consumer was a big year for shops of all kinds, because rationing was no longer an issue as well as households starting to have spare money, which took a lot of self control to keep, thanks to the beauty of funny, sexist, incorrect in today's society or/and bright advertisements of the 1950's.

It was one of the first time children had started to be targetted by advertisements, 'Pester Power' had become a great way to drag parents into buying things they would other wise would ignore. 

Sexism

We are all fully aware there was a lot of sexism going on around this time, women were not supposed to do any work seen as 'mans work' it was only during world war 2 where there were no men to work in the factories so women can prove themselves. it wasn't till 1960's-70's that women were treated with more respect, this was the time were the civil rights movement was in place.

Men and women had grown so used to this stereotypical house wives image of 1950's, sometimes it did get bad and objectified but because it was the norm no one really cared. this poster mas bright colours which are eye catching, and yellow is supposed to be the colour to subconsciously make you want something, however implying women are so fragile or stupid in its text will make the husband want to buy it, this means that this advertisement has been directed to the male audience more

 

smoking also wasn't a big deal, we know now that there are many dangerous that can happen from smoking, but back in the 50's people just didn't know or want to look into it, advertisements were positive, no one wanted to be in a bad mood because they had been passed such a bad point, the more positive sounding something is the more likely people were going to buy them.

 

Everything in this video was happy, cheerful and full of wonder and smiles.

For advertisement, the most common or popular sources were newspapers, magazines, radio ads, Television was like a new leaf to the industry, it was possibly the most influential factor.

Installation placements

Me and my friend Becky have been experimenting with installation placement,  to test weather or not our ideas were possible or interesting to look at. 

Projecting on a corner

It did give a nice effect, however it want as well thought out to be anything cleaver or interesting to look at, so we will keep this idea as a back up incase our actual plan does not work as intended.

Here is an example of projecting onto a textured surface i.e. me, however it did not give the effect we wanted either, that and it would be a pain for whoever it would be to stand (or sit) for long periods of time, there fore it is the least practical experiment we have done so far... 

We tried this with a christmas tree to test again with texts, though we could not make out what the video was playing it did make a nice effect, so next would be to test it on something textured but just one colour like white or black, perhaps a dress or a chair which should distort the actual video.

Update; We found that the tree caused an unusual distortion to the video, blocking a part of it, or separating the video, it is an interesting effect and i definitely think that we could use this if our origional idea doesn't work or just as a side idea, who knows we may look back and decide this idea is better than the original we must wait and see.

This is our test on just a blank wall or folding door.

Here is it projected onto a computer screen, this was a fail as the smooth surface was too much for the bright light.

Bauhaus Presentation

About the Bauhaust

Walter Gropius euphoria was to create an art school like no other, that would redefine art education, though he started off as an Architect, his manifesto symbolises a new and brighter faith.

At the time communism was ripe within Germany, riots were common.

"you cannot understand machines unless you have first learned of the tools in your craft" you would be taught to use tools before you would use the machinery, therefore expanding your techniques and knowledge.

He only hired revolutional painters or sculptures to work as teachers, for example Joseph Albers who studied into colour contrast and theory.

Bauhaust invented the modern day student, instead of history and artists they were taught to open their minds to texture and colour.

Too many women came to take part and had to be segregated into studio's that were more for 'woman's work' like pottery and weaving however before this, one of the best metal work students was a woman.

However in 1929, the bauhaust had been closed for the second time, students and teaches were seen as communists and held jewish ideals, which with a Nazi controlled Germany, the school was raided and used for something 'more useful'. so the Bauhaust moved to berlin. its ideals changed only because they were more focused on mass production.

Wassily Kandinsky-

 

An influential Russian painter born 16th December 1866 in Moscow. He studied fine art in his 30's(sketches, anatomy and colours), after graduating from the University of Moscow, studying law and economics and was offered a professorship at the University of Dorpat.

Kandinsky spent a lot of time travelling Europe in 1906 till 1908, the blue mountains was painted within this time

Kandinsky was not at all impressed by the current art regime in communist Moscow after returning their from Germany while the war had just started, he went back to Germany after his visit to Moscow to work at Bauhaust, which he stayed till the Nazi's closed it down in 1933.

Joseph Ittan -

 

 

Was born on 11 November 1888, in Switzerland. he trained as an elementary teacher and beginning from 1908 he began teaching his unusual methods of kindergarten concept which was the modern way for children to be educated, considering their capabilities and unique needs. 

By 1909, Itten had enrolled at the school of fine art, however he did not stay long because he did not agree with  the educators so he returned to a place called Bern. His work at Bern-Hofwil Teachers' Academy Proved Seminal since his later work at the Bauhaust. In 1919 up to 1922 he started to teach  and helped develop innovative "Preliminary course" in the bauhaust this course meant to teach the students the basics of material characteristics, the composition, and to use colour, also in 1920 he invited Paul Klee and George Muche to join him.

Even though the video is mainly centered on a single clip, the filters used for static and such keep it looking busy and eye catching, the writer of the song did his research on the ever popular game, Five nights at Freddy's- which is a horror category game.

Video installations are modern forms of art that combine technology with art which is aimed at changing the perception of the space for the viewer.

Wolf Vostell

I personally am not very interested by wolfs work in the way I would use his effects, however the creepy feel is there which I like, from the silence and the bold images that may take a moment to register in your mind, I think it would be a great installation if it were on multiple screens instead of just a video (it may be that it already is but this is all I have seen so far). 

 Marsia Alexander-Clarke

I do like the effect she has made with her installation, the echo's in sound to create music from single letters or words, the dragging effect of the videos within is also an interesting effect as they cross my screen.

Pipilotti Rist

I found Pipilotti Risk's installation to be very interesting, pressing her face against the screen as that forcing us to see, I believe the video is about bullying

Sterling Silver

A very dramatic art installation of slow motion glitter falling and flying from the drum

I like the use of the glitter because of how it reflects the light, the colour of them are red and appears to be blood as  it falls and dances from the beat.

There were not many commenters but this one i felt was necessary to include.

Clown Torture - Bruce Nauman

A strange array of screens showing clips of clowns, standing, sitting, it is hard to tell if the clowns are torturing us or the other way around.

9 minutes of surrealism at its finest, the use of clay and paint confused my eyes and made his become some of the strangest things I have ever seen.

Fabbrica Europa 2013

It was very unusual and I did debate to myself wether or not to finish watching it, however once it drew its end it all sort of made sense in a way, it showed the slow birth, the long lasting life and energy before the slow demise in a pool of blood.

The viewers on youtube were not entirely impressed, these were the only ones I felt were needed to add to this, one neutral? and one negative.

Tall Painting

Different pots of paint being poured onto a rectangle sculpture, the paints, instead of blending, stay their true colours, only push away the colours that are in the way.

The ables and speed changes make it interesting to watch.

I Was considering my product to be a sound maker, like a clicker, which would be small and easy to hide away, If a customer is feeling stressed they could make a sound which would give them a feeling of control because the sound maker wont do anything dramatic or surprising because you have to use it to make a sound. x

Stick Figures

I was considering making small stick-figures, or a 'make your own' kit which would keep the buyers attention, either to distract them of the world around them or to cheer them up by the small friendly characters they can make x

Teddy Hands

I was considering making small teddy bears which can fit into your pocket, these small teddies will have finger holes in their sides which are lined with a velvet material, your thumb would go behind them as it holding onto a hand, for me when i get stressed i like to hold something in my pocket, it works as a distraction and as a comfort.  x 

Mints

I was considering making mints or some sort of sweet, they could work at relieving stress but the creativity could be down to the box/packaging, which could be made out of paper or be off shapes x

Teddy Hands

I believe this idea would be the best one out of the four, it would mean the audience would be mostly women of all ages because it is something small and cute, as well as younger kids who still want their 'safety item' to keep them feeling safe.  Though I think it would be a good idea to make their stomachs openable and that they have a scented wheat bag inside, that way if it is a cold day they could simply take the bag out and warm it in the microwave to have a warm Teddy when they put the bag back in.

The Scents could be;

• Lavender, which is said to relieve stress and help people fall asleep.
• Pine, which is said to decrease anxiety and stress
• Peppermint, which is said to increase concentration
• Jasmin, which is said to ease depression and leave the person feeling uplifted
• Lemon, which is said to give the smeller a energy boost as well as eases depression
• Cinnamon, which is said to sharpen the mind and helps deal with fatigue
• Pumpkin, which is said to make you feel at home
• Rose, which is said to help calm irritability

At the start their will be 2 teddies for each scent, the teddies names are Hush and Shush, Hush being the female teddy and Shush being the Male, this will be the product name.
I did ask a few of my colleagues what they would prefer, Hush and Shush or my other Idea which was Brun and Bun but the majority voted for Hush and Shush, saying how sweet it sounded.

Each Scent will have its own name so people can tell them apart, as well as the names the characters will be different colour, so the Lavender Scent will have purple colours and so forth.

• Lemon series could be nicknamed= Life says Lemons! - Yellow

I thought that I finally decided that the name of my company should be Big Bears Hug Back, or BBHB but after a while I thought that was too much, or too long and complicated, so instead I thought of 'Psychic Bear', as the product my company makes is to help calm nerves and other problems that may muddle with the mind.

Clear beautiful video clips, the title was not fooling, the music was well suited for the whole thing, the outfits did make these dogs a lot less frightening.

It is so interesting seeing the tiny meals being made for these animals, the music was one again a good fit. lighting was excellent and the transaction between one scene and the next is easy to keep up with, suitable for all ages and is still a joy for me to see(:

There is very little narrative however it seems to be about a celebration about the channels of tomorrow, the limitless amount of things to watch on the television in the narrators words 'TV guides will be as fat as the manhattan phone book'. lots of music

Peter campus - Three transitions - 2008

A man walking through a sheet of paper, seemingly a parallel version of himself comes back through, the next clip was the same man painting himself into a mirror, reflecting his own face through, no music and no narration, from my guess the whole video was about escaping yourself, finding yourself, and destruction of yourself, as the last clip was the same man, burning a mirror of himself.

I quite liked the creativeness, however without sound i found it dull, becoming easily distracted from it.

Bruce Nauman - Art Make-up - 1967

Is basically a man painting himself, when he is done he sits, not looking to the camera, scratching or rubbing himself, i do not think their is much of a hidden meaning unless it was 'blending in' or 'standing out' from society.

I was not that impressed, though i did watch carefully i was expecting something a little busier, the droning sound was not for me either.
