Collage practice

Collage

For this college I combined cards, coins, fabric, keyrings, bracelet and a makeup sponge to give an autumn day effect(hopefully)
for this one I tried to remake the card below with found materials, having quite a lot of jewellery I used a necklace to resemble the tentacles, a skull earing for the mans face, 5 pence for his torso, paper clip for his legs and a rubber band for arms, I think I did well.

To fit into what I was working on I decided to have an octopus guarding its treasure, like most giants in mythos- there tends to be a lot of hording going on. but because octopus' are in water, and humans dump anything in the water, I put a plastic bag over his head to show that he is slowly suffocating under his own greed and mans negligence.

Types of abstraction

Abstraction of Cephalopod

The sort of abstraction i enjoy most is taking a small part of a large picture, this is an example of this in octopus form.
Then there is simplifying the image by limiting detail or making it overall smooth
This would be an example of simplified abstraction

Cephalopod

Cephalopod study

The interesting thing about octopus', Squids or cuttle fish is not only their brains but their colours, a mixture of dark and light but its obviously not dark red on orange, it shows how blue lightens the other colours around it.

smooth movement in the water squids are recognised for their speed in the water, some go to the extreme and actually jump out of water to avoid predators
A photo i took of a book in 'the deep' i thought it was a nice picture to have and that it resembled abstraction
