Visit to Liverpool

We are planning to go to Liverpool to look at different galleries and museums as well as visit Anthony Gormleys installation piece "Another Place" which are 100 cast iron men, made in his image, placed in many locations along liverpools beach, as the water goes out the figures become visible, as the water comes in their heads are menacingly watching out at the on coming water.

Here are some of the photo's I took;

But first we will be visiting The Walkers Gallery

I would like to find "Peter Getting Out Of Nick's Pool" an acrylic painting on disblay from 1966, by David Hockney as well as other paintings.

Albert Richards born 1919 in Liverpool, he studied at Wallasey Art School. However he was soon called upon for his services in the war, he painted whenever he could, trying to capture army life, this painting was called the seven legends self portrait.

Satire- Adult Swim

Too many cooks is basically a mock of family sitcoms or soap programs, using random humour to exaggerate it to its max, for example of this would be giving a pie a police badge, a 'superhero' turning round to transform into their disguise but it took too long, it took a dark twist where there was a murderer on the loose before it got killed by a puppet named smarf who was actually a robot and then they were in space and just everything happened....

I think the actual plan for this was to make fun of almost every show possible and cram them into this 11 minute long video, you really want to stop watching it but its hard to stop, even though the biggest part of the video was its intro, which took up almost the 11 minutes.

I do suggest watching it if you have patients and don't mind being confused for the entire time.

It did give me the Idea to put celebrities faces onto inanimate objects, this can range from vegetables to a lamp, it would appear random however i could be quite cleaver with it, try to exaggerate a point for example 'The Rock', Dwayne douglass johnson's face on a rock, I say clever when really i just mean silly, I mean i could still use the caricature research as a style to put onto the rock instead of it just being a detailed face on a detailed rock, either way would be funny

I think....

sorry

Installation placements

Me and my friend Becky have been experimenting with installation placement,  to test weather or not our ideas were possible or interesting to look at.

Projecting on a corner

It did give a nice effect, however it want as well thought out to be anything cleaver or interesting to look at, so we will keep this idea as a back up incase our actual plan does not work as intended.

Here is an example of projecting onto a textured surface i.e. me, however it did not give the effect we wanted either, that and it would be a pain for whoever it would be to stand (or sit) for long periods of time, there fore it is the least practical experiment we have done so far...

We tried this with a christmas tree to test again with texts, though we could not make out what the video was playing it did make a nice effect, so next would be to test it on something textured but just one colour like white or black, perhaps a dress or a chair which should distort the actual video.

Update; We found that the tree caused an unusual distortion to the video, blocking a part of it, or separating the video, it is an interesting effect and i definitely think that we could use this if our origional idea doesn't work or just as a side idea, who knows we may look back and decide this idea is better than the original we must wait and see.

This is our test on just a blank wall or folding door.

Here is it projected onto a computer screen, this was a fail as the smooth surface was too much for the bright light.

Puppet

Marionette are puppets controlled by String or wires depending on region.
All that I could need to make a 'base' for my puppet would be;
  • Newspaper
  • Wire
  • String
  • Wood
  • Papiermache/ mod rock

My first attempt at making a marionette puppet, I have noted that even though the wire used was easy to bend, it was also easier to break or come loose, therefore I must use stronger wire for my next attempt.

This was me making my second marionette, this time some parts had thicker wire, such as body, and legs though this did mean it was very hard to work with and took me some time!
I am happy with how it came out however it did take up alot of time.

Review in video art; Bill Viola

Silent life

Bill Viola has said that he had gotten this inspiration from the look on the newborns faces as they see light for the first time, and the thought that even though they see what we see, they do not know what they see because that is something to be learnt.

The Crossing

The Creator talked about how he and his brother and uncle went swimming, wearing rubber floats around their waist for safety, his brother jumped in and stayed a float without any trouble, however when he tried to dive in he slipped out of his float and sank to the bottom, and for a long time he would just stare up at the surface, unafraid, he said how beautiful it all was, he didn't even notice he was drowning until after a large hand reached out and grabbed his chest and pulled him out of the surface leaving him in a state of confusion.

Installation placement Ideas

In my Team of 2, me and Becky have looked at projecting our Video onto walls, ceilings, Windows and stairs, but they weren't quite the effect we wanted. What we have come up with is either projecting onto the floor so when people walk down the hall it will be the first thing they see, or to project it onto something that will distort its appearance, for example the dresses in reception or the side of a filing cabinet. We also could project the video installation in a corner too, because it would create a different atmosphere. Surround sound speakers would be a great idea because then you'd get the sound from the video, also you'd place the speakers either near the actual installation or behind where the people are standing so the sound will be coming from behind them.

Video art researches

Music Videos

Even though the video is mainly centered on a single clip, the filters used for static and such keep it looking busy and eye catching, the writer of the song did his research on the ever popular game, Five nights at Freddy's- which is a horror category game.

Rude humour, the title does not lie but there may be odd twists!
flashy and lots of different environments and lightings.

Here are some comments by viewers on youtube!

Media Museum Bradford

I visited the media museum in Bradford as well as checking out the university, which i am very interested in at the moment, even though it did not have my ideal course, it did have something more to my liking, a Gaming Graphics course.

At the museum there were lots to see and such little time, what i managed to capture were these old videos, almost robotic in movement so i can only guess it was using some sort of stop motion, putting images together to make a video effect, these may be some of the first videos of their kind, considering most before were mainly just flip books, I tried looking up dates but it would seem that picture films only really started 1900, with Enchanted Drawings, which was the first entirely animated film, Motion pictures starting 1890
Saddly, I could not find any videos of these on youtube :c

In one of the floors of the museum there were different arcade games and even a few old console games, I felt they were pretty much interactive installations and of course had to try a few, the phot's arent the best quality, I am very sorry.

Using a microsoft kinect to show movement as light particles, the camera scans the room, anyone who walks in front of the sensor will be shown with those colourful spots to indicate  their presence, not only dots, they seemed to be different effects after a while, however i could only capture this one in the short time i had.
Richard England is the designer who produced this kinect experiment demonstrating a variety of effects.

Even though this shows nothing along the lines of video art I did want to add this into my post because not only do I find it fascinating, but also it promotes looking for the bigger picture, yes the skull looked good but what does it mean? "I'M THE CREEPER: CATCH ME IF YOU CAN"

I thought getting a few images of this installation in one of the first rooms of the museum was a great idea, each TV screen was showing a viral video that would change every-time one has finished, it was an interesting set up for me because of the different appearing shapes, when they are all the same size, just in different positions, an incomplete tetris .

A wall of tiny images, the colours intreged me enough to go check it out and i was not disappointed.

These are images of the only surviving Wallace and Gromit scenes, Aardman Animations won an oscar for the film "wrong trousers", it is the last survive set because of a devastating fire that destroyed 30 years of work, this piece survived because it was no in the building of Aardman Animations.
I personally love the Wallace and Gromit series, as well as chicken run and creature comforts, they have always managed to put a smile on my face, from the quirky characters to the effort put in to making them move, frame by frame.

A video of a Phenakistoscope, a disk with a series of images along the outter side, you look through a small square and watch as the images change, the faster you spin the more fluid it appears, this is an illusion.
