Comic in motion

My first comic page is possibly my favourite because of the ball pen technique, where you use lines for shading, it gives off a rough texture which fits the mood of the comic but i mostly like the first panel where it shows off a closeup of the main characters most vulnerable moment as a spider.

To improve this page i would have practiced different flowers as well as focus on making an exciting background.

Here is what it looks like finished, i decided to add more than just the sketchy shading, black and white was more dynamic but i wanted a middle tone to try and show the comic is soft, it could be to fool the viewer into thinking they won't be thrown into anything but end up in tears or it could be to show its not black and white, good and bad there is a beginning, a middle and an end.

The choice in the layout fell to this as it is easier to read as well as it could represent a spider dangling from a web, it would not be hanging width wise or in a packed web, then it would be comfortable and sturdy, but it it tangled from a single strand of silk it would be easily blown away.

Step by step

First thing to do would be to crop and clean the image
after cropping i would go to image- adjustments- layers, and then i would drag the black arrow to where the black mountain starts, then i would move the grey arrow closer to the black one so that it will lighten the image which will help the lines stand out.
then i would go to image-adjustments-curves, I will play about with it until the lines become darker and the background becomes clearer
once that is done i will go to image- adjustments-selective colour and drag every colour to -100 except black, continue doing this part until there are no visible colours left, then clean up and marks left over

I immediately coloured the background so that the shading will be the focus, the shading is white added where it is necessary or where it would stand out.

after the shading is done i will need to go to illustrator to add little details, such as the boundaries of each cell, speech bubbles and text, i do this in adobe illustrator because it does not blend with the colours and instead stands out perfectly.

It is still a work in progress but I have managed to make my own blog for the comics
http://thehuggerscomics.tumblr.com/
I chose Tumblr because it is one of the most frequented blog sites and I am more likely to be noticed there, However it seemed to have a problem with the comic sizes, I did not want to shrink the image as it would affect the quality and so i cropped each panel to be posted separately, because of the layout i have chosen it is still read in the same layout

I have recently thought of changing the story, so that he is fully human when his wish was granted but when he helps Gloria his wish is broken but he is finally happy, this leaves him between human and spider but his new 'imperfect' out look on life makes him able to smile and experience emotions for the first time.
